Hello, my name is Steve Carano and I am your instructor for these CLEET certified courses. I am not an emergency responder.
However, if you have lived here in Oklahoma for a while, you have probably seen me on TV. I have worked full-time and part-time as a TV meteorologist at KOCO-TV (channel 5), ABC, KFOR-TV (channel 4), NBC, and an intern for Gary England, KWTV (channel 9), CBS in Oklahoma City. I am currently a tenured professor at Rose State College. I have taught at Rose State for 18 years, where I am the Earth and Environmental Science Coordinator. I am responsible for the curriculum for Atmospheric Science, Geology, Physical Science and Earth Science Education. I am also an adjunct professor at Redlands Community College.
I have a Emmy Award for coverage of the May 3, 1999 tornado, Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters award, Governor’s Humanitarian Award for Saving Lives on May 3, 1999. Member of the American Meteorology Society & National Weather Association. I have received the Excellence in Teaching and Gold Key professor awards at Rose State College.
I am married to my wonderful wife Andrea, who is the nurse manager for the Mercy Hospital Wound Care. We have a son named Sam. My senior year in high school I was 4th in the State of Oklahoma on trombone (All-State). I then attended the University of Oklahoma where I was on scholarship to play in the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band for 5 years. When I was younger, I had a chance to go to the Olympic Training camp for target shooting.
I am originally from McAlester, OK and Krebs, OK, considered the “Little-Italy” of Oklahoma.
I have a few hobbies. Storm chasing (of course), Hunting/Fishing, OU Football and Tailgating, Amateur Radio, Cooking (I keep up with my Italian heritage and make my own beer, wine, cheese and sausage), hanging out with my friends & family and church.
My goal is to make these courses as fun as possible and we don’t have to do, any hardcore math or talk over your head science, to do that in these classes. I am honored you are here!
